2016
Trying to recap this year... was one of those bizarre years.
highlights
- began a bit disappointingly, and a series of disappointments and setbacks continued through the year
- major fights and multiple breakups and makeups
- both kids' graduations, admissions, nervousness, adjustments
- GRRRREAT summer, crazy busy June - Sept. It's almost like the summer overshadowed the whole year. a couple of months looking forward to it, and then another couple of months recovering from it.
- did a lot of hiking. our new family favorite was board walking pretty much every weekend.
- weight stayed within 8 lbs of ups and downs... on the up right now.
- thefts, accidents, near accidents, people almost dying on me
- sorta satisfying on personal front.
- sorta tight on financial front
- literally no other vacation, except during summer.

How was yours?

Re: 2016
2016 was a good year for the most part and went by quickly.
It was not only a year of painful breakup/makeup but was also a year of close bonding.
Wonderful summer. Quality time spent with the family in India and a lovely vacation in Dubai and NY
Things stabilized at work. Great boss to work with.
Major milestones surpassed successfully by the older and younger one doing fine too (touchwood)
Struggling to lose weight that put on during summer.
The whole election process was traumatic, the results left me with mixed feelings, but I am positive now. All will be well.
Except for the pre-election trauma that i experienced (much to the amusement of this way too cool buddy), 2016 has been a smooth and stable year.

Re: 2016
We stayed in Secaucus and took the bus to nyc. The first day we took those hop on hop off buses and did the city tour, went to the 9/11 memorial, the wall street, and of course Time square. While i loved the city, thought it was so lively and vibrant (such contrast to Dubai), the younger one didn't like it at all. He felt that it was a concrete jungle with not much greenery (what else does one expect in downtown?), and that it was so commercial and artificial, yada yada.Scarlet O'Hara wrote:Kinnera wrote:2016 was a good year for the most part and went by quickly.

The next day he refused to come out of the hotel room. We had to literally drag him out. We went to the natural history museum first. He loved it like crazy. He didn't want to miss even one exhibit, was reading everything that was written there. We had a tough time hurrying him up. We did cover it pretty decently though. Then we went through the central park, which is awesome, to the museum of arts. We knew we'd be lost in it, so took a three hour
tour. That was ok, but i felt very dissatisfied. We couldn't cover even a fraction of the museum, but that's expected. Son was very excited and surprised to see the washington (crossing over the baltimore bridge) painting that he'd seen in his history books.
He liked the second day a lot and was irritated with us that we wasted the first day doing the stupid city tour. He wants to go back sometime, spend at least ten days there covering the two museums. whatever!!
Hubby is going to ny again on official work in Jan and will be staying in time square. I'd have accampanied him had it not been such a cold month of the year.

deleted my rambling
cool.. we also did a day trip one day just to go to natural history museum. yeah, you do want to read e'thing once there. we were so many of us, that we ended up buying the annual family membership to get a good deal, but haven't gone again yet. Saw a 3D movie there, participated in a couple of interactive exhibits. Went out to eat tacos from a taco stand - most amazing mexican food we have had, totally fresh. We ended the day with ice cream at central park. That's my thing lol. ice cream at central park, and sit on some boulders if we can.
also did hop on hop off, my first in 19 years, enjoyed.
mostly ate and chilled the other times. walked piers, brooklyn bridge, greenwich village. high line, chilled at times square. some shopping, and fireworks cruise.

We too took the ticket to the special programs at museum. They were nice, but took up our time to go spend more time at the exhibits.Scarlet O'Hara wrote:

We tried the street food in time square (the ones near the pond). The falafel was the best we ever tasted. Thai was also good. These stalls were not there at night. We tried something else at night. Same street food. It was horrible.
I didn't like NJ/Secaucus :-(. It was all so old and depressing. It didn't seem like we were in US. I like my Atlanta suburbs better. :p

Re: 2016
It's been, mostly, a rough year for me. India trip though short was the bright side of the year. Had good time, gave me a chance to thank my parents for all the sacrifices they made for my future.

Same here. Trips to india can be so refreshing.
Not sure if I have thanked my parents explicitly. Am sure they have worried sleepless for me many times. Still do I think, sigh. My mom feels happy as long as she sees me moving around with XH, so I am glad it worked out that I move around a lot with XH and his fam.
BTW.. last visit (this Aug), rents gave me some ruppes to exchange in the airport. One place i went outside the security in mumbai, and they said, sorry there be limits unless you show ATM slips. So I exchanged whatever i could. *TRIED* to spend as much as possible inside, but I guess I am not much of a shopper. Still had plenty left. Thought will exchange it either in mumbai or in Newark. Didn't do it. Thought no biggie as I am coming back in a few months. You know what happened 3 months later hehe...

Re: 2016
one of the downsides of this year was when i fell for a married man. we were talking about smtg and i looked at him and he looked at me and for a minute all i saw was blue and then of course i knew nothing about him but i fell in love just like that and thought we'd have a house in summit, a holiday in some rain forest, two kids -both smart and adventurous. and this went on for a month and i'm making googly eyes at him every chance i get before i saw a pciture of this woman in the newsletter and she had the same last name.
of course i was like, "oh, they must be siblings" and then i google her and i'm like what the fuck, and the i google him and then i'm like, "oh no they're clearly not from even the same continents ethinically! i was like super-distressed and i wanted to shove my head in a bucket of sand and just die:d.i.e.
then i was able to confirm everything (in an altogether dreary fashion whcih i intend to erase from my memory) and that the two were indeed married and had that dreadful house in the burbs and kids and dogs and whatever other things married people have. this guy works in a cath lab so of course he does not wear a ring.
so now we are both super-embarrassed around each other. but you know what, i have no doubt that i'm made for greatness in my profession so i'm focusing on that and i am very professional and straight-forward at work. so all is well and i'm doing great.

oh.. i saw the 7 lbs weight loss, and came to reply to that, and then saw this.
that must have sucked... but looks like this was one sided... or did he know u were flirting and took it as normal until he realized you were serious flirting? trying to think why both were super embarrassed later.
this has happened to me once. i mean, not for myself, but once i saw a guy, who i thought would be super suitable for a cousin of mine. So i pitch her name entire party, and then his spouse joins him. Oops.

** no , it did not. it was a learning experience. my life is richer due to it. also, they're giving me a cash bonus this year and i spent all that money on myself.
