Re: Grammar Test
Yeah, where is he? He would have been happy to see the high levels of grammatic literacy

Re: Grammar Test
You studied in a good school, sir. Typically government schools in India teach in the local language and the students struggle with English.Seva Lamberdar wrote:same here (100%) --- thanks to Govt. school in Baggli village teaching English to us starting in grade (class) 6 (with special thanks to late Mr. Labh Singh, our Math and English teacher).

Re: Grammar Test
The teaching in Govt. schools in our area then (our Dist., Kangra, was a part of Punjab state at that time, before joining H.P. in mid-1960s), including the Govt. Middle School Baggli which I attended from grade / class one to eight, had Hindi as the medium of instruction throughout. Among the languages taught as compulsory subjects in Govt. schools in our area then (1950s to mid-1960s), Hindi started in grade 1, Punjabi in grade 4, and Sanskrit and English in grade 6.silvermani wrote:You studied in a good school, sir. Re: Grammar Test
It was also around that time, while still in school, I had the realization that Hindi and Urdu are not different languages but the same language written using two different scripts, the former using the Devanagri and the latter using "modified Persian" (or Urdu). One of my relatives, same age as myself and studying in another Govt. school (with similar language training in Hindi but no Urdu), spent a couple of weekends during summer learning the Urdu script on his own and immediately after that he started sending out postcards to old relatives written in Urdu (basically Hindi penned down in Urdu script). He impressed quite a few people / relatives for doing it all ("learning" Urdu) by himself in such a short time.Seva Lamberdar wrote:The teaching in Govt. schools in our area then (our Dist., Kangra, was a part of Punjab state at that time, before joining H.P. in mid-1960s), including the Govt.
