How Narendra Modi has institutionalized political corruption in India Empty How Narendra Modi has institutionalized political corruption in India

The BJP, Narendra Modi and his government make much of being crusaders against corruption of the Congress kind.

Last week, in the greatest act of institutionalisation of corruption in post-independence history, two key changes were sneaked into the Budget papers.

1) Companies, corporates and business houses were exempted from revealing which political party they had donated funds to.

2) The cap on donations was lifted, allowing them to donate more than 7.5 per cent of the net profit of the last three years they were allowed to.

These changes knock the bottom out of the claims of cleanliness and transparency that the BJP government makes.

Today’s Telegraph has two graphics which show what a gigantic step backwards India took last week compared to other developed democracies (above) and some not so developed ones (below).
