Very interesting DM. This excerpt (though a side note in the context of the article) was very interesting





While powerful, mefloquine has serious drawbacks, including nightmares and paranoia. In 2003, dozens of American Marines in Liberia got malaria after refusing to take pills because of military scuttlebutt that several Special Forces soldiers who killed their wives after returning home from Afghanistan in 2002 had been driven insane by the drug.

Mefloquine does induce vivid nightmares and I have friends in Peacecorps who took it when they were in West Africa who say that the hallucinations/dreams are amazing. It takes years for them to get normal.

they should give to Chairman Mao, special provision in this case.

PS: Only in the USA will a drug like Mefloquine be approved. How is that even a drug?
