The Obummer legacy: A raging problem with heroin and opioids
Yet another aspect of the dope and change peddler Obummer's shining legacy. What a mess President Trump has inherited!
President Obama made a surprise trip to West Virginia last fall to announce a new effort to fight prescription drug abuse, an epidemic that has shredded the rural state. "This crisis is taking lives. It's destroying families," Obama said in Charleston. Yet the crisis had been building for five years at that point, and critics say Obama's reactions were too little and too late. Some say his government even contributed to the crisis by approving painkillers liable to abuse.

Yes, I agree he was late in acting. Should have caught it sooner. Similar to when Reagan dragged his feet on HIV.

You mean Obama knew about this crisis building up about 5 years before but acted on it much later?

I don't know the exact timeline. I think he started talking about it seriously only in 2016, whereas I remember hearing about a study by a husband and wife Princeton economist team who looked at the reasons behind a sudden increase in death rates amongst white middle aged people and concluding that the drugs epidemic was behind it. Let me see if I can find that NPR report:

This one has a date of 3/17 but they speculated about it in 2015.
