H-M synthesis: Keeping alive the spirit of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Despite witnessing a few communal clashes in the recent past, Hyderabad's famous Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (Muslims and Hindus living in peace and harmony) was on full display during the Ganesh festivities.
Continuing the tradition, Muslims actively participated in Ganesh Chaturdhi celebrations. For instance, 25-year-old Md Sameer, a cab driver from Narapally near Medipally, along with his friends has been putting up a Ganesh pandal at their colony for the past four years. "God is god. I along with my Hindu friends have been installing Ganesha idol for the past four years and will continue to do so. This is how we can live forever in harmony," Sameer told TOI.
Similarly, in Moula Ali, Mohammed Ameen carried out 'annadanam' for the devotees of elephant God, while Khaleel, Chotu bhai, Maqbul, Syed Amjad of Malkajgiri organized a pandal at Anandbagh and distributed water packets to devotees during the immersion procession on Sunday.
In Devendernagar, Jawaharnagar, young Muslims organized Ganesha procession. A private employee, Md Mustaq, 25, of Old Ramanthapur, donated Rs 60,000 for installation of an idol at Vivek Nagar in Ramanthapur and Abdul Wahab, 24, of Boduppal along with his friends installed a Ganesha idol at Gayatri Nagar in Bodduppal.
