Hi Fluteholder Ji,
Are you still a disciple of Sadhguru? If yes, can I ask you a few questions about you and him? I am curious. My questions would be about faith and spirituality. I do not know why I want to ask you something about you and him.

Re: The new year greetings to everyone on SuCH
Hello,
Are you the guy from Kolkotta/WB?
I am not a disciple of SG. Not even a member or volunteer of his group. I have watched most of his videos. I would say, it is not easy to become a disciple of any real guru so easily unless one is qualified and the teacher is ready/willing to accept him/her.
Look at this video on 1.37 onwards on becoming a disciple.. I am sure you may be aware of the 'Peacock which drinks milk with opium...' story.. It has a Bengal/Kolkotta connection.
Now, coming to your question, what you want to ask me about SG? Most of the questions are answered in his videos/blogs. I can try to point towards them if possible. Goodluck.

i have actually seen most of his videos. perhaps that is why i selected you.
i wanted to ask you questions about *you* with sadhguru in the background and not particularly about sadhguru. maybe' i'll start with a few questions to help you determine whether you want to have this conversation or not.
let me start by saying i am not judgemental. i am also not religious. but i am not an atheist. i think i am flexible in these matters.
1) if you are not a disciple or follower of sadhguru, then how do you describe your relation to him?
2) when was the first time you saw sadhguru (in any medium)? where was it? could you describe your experience? what happened that made you believe he was speaking the truth? what were the exact words of sadhguru to the extent you can recall from memory?
3) are you able to find most of your answers in his videos? do you think he touches all topics?
p.s. yes i am from kolkata. no, i haven't heard of peacock-opium -- goggle wasn't of help.

I am not sure you are the same person I remember/I think you are (cook Ganpat's dishes pics? ), but nevertheless I will try to answer.
1) To me, I find his answers to some specific concepts which I have been seeking/clarifications are close to convincing. I have not met him personally except few years ago in CBE for few minutes in an evening 'Darshan/Lecture'.
2) I came across SG probably in 2002 in Columbus,OH but I didnot like the idea of giving money to attend Satsang. Probably would have benefited more if I had attended then and would have learned more.
3) I came across his videos/Teachings again around 4 of 5 years ago and got attracted by the clarity and decisiveness and other things about him/his background.. etc. Most of them are answered.
Peacock/Opium is about how Mahendranath Gupta (Referred as M), who was the scribe/chief disciple of Bhagwan Ramakrishna and wrote the Gospel of Ramakrishna. M was a school teacher/principal who searched and found Ramakrishna in a Park near Ganges in Kolkata and you can read about this on SRI M's book 'Apprentice to Himalayan Master' or in most of his videos he refers this. M is referred as the peacock who drank the opium mixed milk to come back for the milk (for spiritual knowledge). (The story goes like once the peacock is fed opium mixed milk, it keeps coming to the temple for the milk everyday..) M and 'Sri M' are different persons. I came across Sri M/His videos few months ago. Planning to visit Kolkata, on my next trip if possible.

Even I am not sure if I am the same person. That is a bit weird because you just got the same feeling and this is despite the fact that there are tell tale signs in my posts that suggest it is me: lower case and a short history of interactions with only Tracy. i don't think Tracy and i have ever argued in an unpleasant way nor endorsed each other in an overly positive way -- i think we have just cut each other a lot of slack, for a long time, for reasons unclear. Of course, you would find the latter sign only if you were looking for it. But yes, I am the ganpath-guy.

Ah, but you did not state what these concepts are/were? could you share?

Yes, if he is holding a satsang in USA, then he has to pay for the material facilities. It is said that he never charged for his earliest lectures in hyderabad but those lectures required spartan facilities.

5 years is a long time. He does talk with a sense of clarity and decisiveness. One can be sceptical of him, but the celebrity endorsements that surround him would challenge skepticism because people like Kiran Mazumdar Shaw to Kamath (ICICI bank) to Karan Johar are his followers or disciples.

If you visit Kolkata, kindly make some time for me. I would love to meet you -- my phone number is in your PM.
I have been reading about Ramakrishna and Vivekananda too but I do not think I am as informed about them as I am about SG at the moment -- so I will skip references to M and Sri M.
Here is a list of the questions I ask of you in this post:
1. You did not state what these concepts (that he answered for you at first or later interactions) are/were? could you share?
2. Do you have faith in logic? Do you have a feeling logic can be treacherous and mislead completely?
3. Do you believe in God?
4. Last line in this post is a question too.
Let us keep this conversation going. I find it interesting (don't know about you).
Do you believe in God? Dirac was probably one of the most famous physicists after Newton. Here is an anecdote about Dirac:
Dirac as a young man in his 20s:
Quote
Dirac as an old man in his 70s:

What impressions does the above give you? What conclusions do you draw from it? Do you find Dirac surprising or predictable?

Do you believe in God? Dirac was probably one of the most famous physicists after Newton. Here is an anecdote about Dirac:
Dirac as a young man in his 20s:
Quote
If we are honest—and scientists have to be—we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality ... If religion is still being taught, it is by no means because its ideas still convince us, but simply because some of us want to keep the lower classes quiet. Quiet people are much easier to govern than clamorous and dissatisfied ones. They are also much easier to exploit. Religion is a kind of opium that allows a nation to lull itself into wishful dreams and so forget the injustices that are being perpetrated against the people. Hence the close alliance between those two great political forces, the State and the Church. Both need the illusion that a kindly God rewards—in heaven if not on earth—all those who have not risen up against injustice, who have done their duty quietly and uncomplainingly. That is precisely why the honest assertion that God is a mere product of the human imagination is branded as the worst of all mortal sins.
Dirac as an old man in his 70s:
Quote
It could be that it is extremely difficult to start life. It might be that it is so difficult to start life that it has happened only once among all the planets... Let us consider, just as a conjecture, that the chance life starting when we have got suitable physical conditions is 10−100. I don't have any logical reason for proposing this figure, I just want you to consider it as a possibility. Under those conditions ... it is almost certain that life would not have started. And I feel that under those conditions it will be necessary to assume the existence of a god to start off life. I would like, therefore, to set up this connexion between the existence of a god and the physical laws: if physical laws are such that to start off life involves an excessively small chance, so that it will not be reasonable to suppose that life would have started just by blind chance, then there must be a god, and such a god would probably be showing his influence in the quantum jumps which are taking place later on. On the other hand, if life can start very easily and does not need any divine influence, then I will say that there is no god.
What impressions does the above give you? What conclusions do you draw from it? Do you find Dirac surprising or predictable?

1) Too much to explain here, will send pm.
2) Yes. I understand the cost part and I discussed with them/management on not asking donations for videos/programmes and get large sponsorships from one or few companies than asking donations from each individuals.
3) Not because of ICICI/Celebrities endorsements. If you go by that Apollo Hospital... ? (cover up of JJ's health/death issues). So we cannot go by endorsements.
4) I have not read much non-Indian books except a few. Will send more on this thru pm.
I was trying to post something on the lines... which best explained this old Tamil devotional hymn/poetry.

These (personalized) God versions are no better or no less compared to each other and are flawless in their own way. Those who do ask for salvation will get what is per their individual fate.
