These are the 15 women who helped draft the Indian Constitution
".... The total membership of the Constituent Assembly was 389. While we all remember Dr. B R Ambedkar as the Father of the Constitution and other pioneering male members who helped draft the Indian Constitution, the contribution of the fifteen female members of the Constituent Assembly is easily forgotten." ... https://feminisminindia.com/2018/01/26/15-women-draft-indian-constitution/
>>> Besides the easily forgotten names of 15 female members on the Constituent Assembly, there is another thing many Indians don't know / realize that the Indian Constitution put into effect on 26 Jan. 1950 owed a lot during its framing to the British and American Constitutions, especially the former (British C.) yielding the bulk of input.

The people representing the TN population, or whatever the name for that constituency then, were present in the Parliament when the Constitution was debated and passed by the Parliament prior to being put into effect on Jan. 26, 1950.Kayalvizhi wrote:Indian constitution was never ratified by the people of Tamil Nadu. Re: These are the 15 women who helped draft the Indian Constitution
Yeah, right. The LTTE didn't ratify the creation of PakiSatan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Maldives, Andhra, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Meghaland, Manipur, Goa, Kerala, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Nagaland, Taiwan, Jordan, Israel, Sierra Leone, Togo, Eritrea, USA, Canada, Khazakistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia.......Kayalvizhi wrote:Indian constitution was never ratified by the people of Tamil Nadu. Until butcher Prabhakaran approves these countries/states, they don't exist in the minds of piecefully minded LTTE fellows.....

Members of the constituent assembly were not elected by people. They were appointed by Congress leaders. Since members were not elected, the constitution is not democratic. Under those circumstances the constitution should have been presented to the people for ratification. It was not done.
So the Indian constitution is illegal under international norms.

And who elected the people in those states that ratified it, Trollus? Were they elected by the people?Kayalvizhi wrote:Hellsangel wrote:Dear Trollus, who elected the first authors of the US Constitution?Kayalvizhi wrote:Seva Lamberdar wrote:The people representing the TN population, or whatever the name for that constituency then, were present in the Parliament when the Constitution was debated and passed by the Parliament prior to being put into effect on Jan. 26, 1950.Kayalvizhi wrote:Indian constitution was never ratified by the people of Tamil Nadu. Re: These are the 15 women who helped draft the Indian Constitution
What international norms? The ordinary voters are not in a position to read and judge properly the entire Constitution and thus vote judiciously in favor of or against it. Therefore, it's always their representatives (small number -- hand-picked or elected) who are assigned the responsibility of certifying / ratifying the Constitution. Btw, can you name even one amendment to the U.S. Constitution which was voted directly or ratified by the voters themselves before its going into effect?Kayalvizhi wrote:Seva Lamberdar wrote:The people representing the TN population, or whatever the name for that constituency then, were present in the Parliament when the Constitution was debated and passed by the Parliament prior to being put into effect on Jan. 26, 1950.Kayalvizhi wrote:Indian constitution was never ratified by the people of Tamil Nadu. Ordinary voters are not reading party manifesto and judiciously vote in elections. So some "elite" individuals appoint MLAs, MPs. That is not democracy.
Different groups will present the pros and cons of constitution and people will ratify or not based on that. We surely would have explained to people the Hindi imperial nature of constitution and people would not have ratified it.
US constitution is amended by Congress and ratified by states.

Re: These are the 15 women who helped draft the Indian Constitution
Btw, there is an important example set long ago by the U.S. in dealing with people and states opposing / threatening the Constitution and Constitutional amendments through non-ratification etc. President Lincoln did everything in power to bring in line the states ruled by Jefferson Davis and Co. which otherwise would have never agreed to and ratified the 13th Amendment.Seva Lamberdar wrote:What international norms?
