the widowmaker
turning that age now, 45, when new challenges start appearing. the widowmaker heart attacks, for one. And for some reason, the ones in their 40s or early 50s, and in seemingly good health, rarely survive. I don't know, but I think many Indians succumb to this...
Every month or two now (heard one more today), have been hearing someone losing someone by this, a husband or friend of some batchmate. Luckily so far, no one in my age group that I directly know, and I hope to keep it that way. The thought itself rattles you for the whole day. (I did lose an old friend 4 years ago, but hers was a long-term ailment that just got worse).

A widowmaker is an informal term for a heart attack that involves 100 percent blockage in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, says Stanley Chetcuti, M.D., an interventional cardiologist at the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center. ... “The LAD is a very important blood vessel,” Chetcuti says.

I am curious - How do you or anyone here, as a daughter, deal with your parents getting old back home in India?

my dad is now no more... but for 2-3 years before that, and even now, i had started visiting them every 8-9 months or so. Dad used to take even that very hard, as if those 8-9 months were an eternity, he wanted me to come sooner and sooner. I am somewhat glad that i was there for the last 5 days of his life, literally sitting by his bedside his last night on earth. Mom is chill so far. She's still in the mindset of - 'why you wasting money'... they hated coming here, hence that option was out. The biggest solace for me is that they live with one of their kids, and another kid took/takes very good of them medically. I was/am there just to be cute, i guess, and i tried/try to play that role as well as i can. and maybe i gave them the most grief too, however they both always told/tell me that they are happy just to see me.
