>>> There is no excuse any longer under Modi as P.M. that India is not suited to democracy.
In the past, whenever things got messy administratively and didn't function properly, which happened often, some politicians, academicians and intellectuals cited the reason that India was not fit for democracy. But all that seems to have changed now, since the excuse “India is not suited to democracy” is not heard any longer.
The saddest part of the comment "India not fit for democracy" by politicians, academicians and intellectuals was that people had begun to believe in it and started accepting it as the legitimate reason for India's ills and mismanagement by politicians and officials.
Btw, how about the situation in India for religious minorities which continue to do well and prosper and are numerically at around 20% of the total population (with rest 80% as Hindus) from 1947 (after Independence) till now (2020), whereas the minority religious population (Hindus etc.) number are diminished in other parts of pre-Independence India (the present Pakistan and Bangladesh) now (2020) to 3% and 10%, respectively (with 97% Muslim population in Pakistan and 90% Muslim population in Bangladesh) which had started in 1947 (at the time of Independence) at nearly 20% non-Muslim minorities population and 80% Muslim population in East & West Pakistan?

It's difficult to understand the protests against NRC and CAA.
The population in India in last 72 years after the Independence has quadrupled (become fourfold) from 33 crore (330 million) in 1947 to 140 crore (1400 million or 1.4 billion) now (end of 2019), due to the number of people added through births locally and the influx of migrants / refugees from neighboring countries.
Naturally, the Indian Govt. now, under Modi, is trying to keep a record of people in the country and better manage its population and resources using NRC.
Moreover, the Govt. wants now (under Modi) to regulate through CAA the refugees / migrants entering India from the neighboring countries by putting them, and processing them separately, under different categories, as the persecuted minority religious people from the neighboring countries seeking shelter in India to escape religious persecution versus the religious majority people from the neighboring countries escaping to India for economic reasons.

About 100 years ago, a man named Upendra Nath Mukherjee wrote a book titled "A Dying Race". His contention was Hindus are a dying race with 20 crores populace and per him, future is all gloom for Hindus. We all know what happened since; Hindu population exploded by more than 5 times to over 100 crores. If one keeps believing (including the so called Phd holders) in the nonsense spouted by idiots they will find nothing wrong with idiotic acts. NRC is redundant and unnecessary expenditure unless they get rid of census.

The only way to separate the illegals from genuine citizens and maintain proper record of the latter is through a national registry or NRC, not national census.

You have pretty much proved that an average NI Hindu's mindset is same as a believer of wahhabism or a brainwashed suicide bomber.Seva Lamberdar wrote:The only way to separate the illegals from genuine citizens and maintain proper record of the latter is through a national registry or NRC, not national census.

Yesterday was 75th anniversary of Auschwitz survivors. Listen to Marian Turski's words about minorities. Indian minorities have been suffering/lost lives for past 5 years for no fault of theirs. Only blind can't see that.

If the minorities claim to be "suffering" in the past 5 yrs., that might be a sign of improvement in things due to good administration and getting rid of chaos and irregularities by Modi Govt.
Is Marian Turski asking the Govts. in U.S.A., U.K. and France etc. to implement separate religious laws officially for different communities, as is the case in India, to help the minorities and also get rid of their citizens' Citizenship cards and Social Security cards etc. (similar to the proposed NRC in India)?

A group of intruders barge into your house and check your refrigerator out and suspect that food stored in that fridge is against their regular sensitivities and kill your wife and son and one of the elected officials praises and garlands those killers. I guess you would consider that as good administration and your family has not "suffered"

Do you want to blame President Trump for air-traffic controllers in Calif. not stopping recently a helicopter from flying in the foggy conditions, resulting in its crashing and causing the death of a famous ex-NBA player and his young daughter?confuzzled dude wrote:Seva Lamberdar wrote:

And the world thinks 'The Economist' is apolitical. The angst in India bashing Indians and non-Indians is driving India bashers crazy.
BTW, this year 9 Muslims got Padma Awards from the Modi Govt.

I take it as you have no answer or you're a sympathizer of religious bigotry.
