>>> BJP probably should have selected and declared its chief ministerial candidate for Delhi prior to the assembly elections and let him / her go head-to-head during campaigning against the incumbent ruling party and chief minister; the results for BJP in Delhi in that case couldn't be worse than now.

Re: AAP registers historic victory in Delhi polls, BJP trounced, Cong draws blank
BJP probably could have done better in recent Delhi elections:
BJP needs to project the face of its potential C.M. in states before the voters cast votes, such that voters are able to evaluate, judge and compare that person as C.M. against the C.M. candidates from other parties (including incumbents).
Thus BJP should develop local leadership if it wants to win in states, by electing / selecting the chief ministerial candidates for state elections beforehand and having them lead the Party (BJP) locally in elections in states so that the voters get a clear idea as to who will be their C.M. if they vote for BJP in their state elections.
Perhaps, BJP membership in each state should get involved in electing / selecting the potential BJP leader (chief ministerial candidate) before the election to lead the party (BJP) in elections including to set policies and make announcements to voters on behalf of the party (BJP).
Needless to say, had BJP named its chief ministerial candidate beforehand to lead that party in elections in Delhi against incumbent AAP, thus giving Delhi voters the chance to judge / evaluate that person as potential C.M. against the incumbent C.M., the result (seat-wise) for BJP probably would be better, and at least no worse, than now (8 out of 70 for BJP).
