The title of this thread was familiar:)

I am listening to the statements from Tyler's brother and mother. It is quite painful to listen to- the consequences of someone's action..the real way it can impact someone even if it's a cyber crime- crossing boundaries and not caring about how it can "indirectly add" lead to someone who may be confused, and not strong to face humiliation.

Whatever the sentencing may be..I do hope people show more sensitivity, empathy and compassion towards anyone they interact with online/NOT violate privacy (which some of us have been saying for years).

Bias intimidation!

What do you think Romni did to his gay classmate in his prep school years?

i see where you're coming from, and i've had similar thoughts, but ravi never seems to have refused whenever clemente asked him to leave and make the room available for him to entertain his friend.

Jail term is usually served in the local County/City jail. Usually, it is for people who are convicted of misdemeanors and not so serious crimes. Nowadays they allow cell phones and e-access for some time, allow food from home etc.

Prison term is in a "real prison". Prisons are strange in the US (depends- some are really prisons, while others are less restrictive).

Wonder if Ravi will write a book some day soon, and make money as many do in high profile cases..will be interesting to see what happens.

Technically, it can. Not sure if the INS will pursue that in this case, since the Judge said that he was not recommending that.

Dharun is quite fortunate to have so many people stand by him. It was interesting to see so many powerful Indians get involved, like they seldom do.. and even petition Pres. Obama for a pardon.

Hat tip to the System! It works...

Dharun,

1. go for counselling
2. pay attention to the nuances - when the judge says defendants usually stand up when addressed, he is talking much more than common courtesies
3. scratch everything you knew about friendships and rebuild

good luck!

It's a miracle, which almost never happens..convicted on 15 counts and 30 days jailtime..he has to tip one to the stars. Certainly, both mothers (parents) must have suffered a lot, one does feel very bad for them.

From the news:

"I heard this jury say, 'guilty' 288 times--24 questions, 12 jurors. That's the multiplication," Berman said. "I haven't heard you apologize once."

_____

That is quite remarkable..I certainly believe in forgiveness, redemption and giving people chances. Dharun is clearly capable of becoming emotional-when it comes to his family..wish he could have shown some of that for Tyler's family who must be suffering and longed to hear those simple words of apology and remorse from him.

after his mother's speech, judge asked if dharun wanted to say something, and the lawyer said no. guess this was the time to get up and say sorry.

what did the speeches reveal to you? I have this feeling the dead fudger's mom is the one to blame in this entire story. the lungidhari appears to be a callous, amateur dickhead but the mom must have said something to catholicky to her son to make him feel like suicide ideation must the only solution. since when are adult males so sensitive that they kill themselves when another guy makes fun of them?

in those list of videos, there is one which says there are many more texts on clementi's cell phone which were never presented in jury, but once dharun learned of them, he alleviated himself of feeling responsible for his suicide.

yeah, his mother took the news hard, so maybe that was it.

revelation was how both mother's thought that the other was quiet and asocial. and how many times the clementi said 'crime'. Or for that matter, mentioned rich father and swimming pool, to portray him as a full bully.

Maybe they seem so aggressive because this is still a pretty fuzzy case, but they still want some kind of punishment being given (or pardon being given), and hence the strong harsh words. which continue to cause even more resentment on both the sides.

guess things are more clear when there are straight crimes.

Pliss to share your revelation. I will check the vids once I go home.

I think he got away with only 30 days. Some kids don't learn and I happen to watch over kids at a pool party and one of the kids was trying to pretend he was riding on a horse or something over a kid and the was less damned that the other kid was almost drowning. Had to shout at them and cancel the party half way. I did complained to the kid's Mom and she cared less even to apologize...and also justified that they are all kids. Not all normal kids play such a stunt on a week child. It's called Bullying! I have seen that the stronger kids do always try to take the weeker ones.

>>>> The kid got railroaded with this bias intimidation BS. An appellate court will quite likely find the charge constitutionally problematic. I don't know how this works on appeal in terms of whether the appellate court can partially overrule the judge's ruling. Or if that will result in a complete dismissal. If that charge had not been part of the case and Ravi had gotten the same sentence, I may have thought it a bit harsh, but could see it as falling within the judge's discretion. Invasion of privacy and tampering with evidence are fairly substantial issues and Ravi clearly was in the wrong on both counts, but this bias intimidation was prosecutorial overreach.
