Question on life expectancy
What if there are no blood pressure medications, diabetes medications (including no insulin), no heart drugs, no kidney/liver/heart transplants, no surgeries to remove blockages, no vaccines for anything, no antibiotics --- what will be our avarage life expectancy?

Re: Question on life expectancy
30-40 years I am guessing. 'Average'. There might be outliers.

Re: Question on life expectancy
I don't know..
*If there were none of the medical advancements..one has to assume..there would be none of the lifestyles/habits/practices too- so the living conditions/environments would be different too.
Many of our great grandparents and other ancestors lived until at least they were in their 60s and 70s- most/all of them did not have any of what you mentioned above.
*The Bible says- the natural good age for a person to live is 3 score and ten years..(one score= 20 years..so that is 70 years).
Psalm 90:10:
The length of our days is seventy years--or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

Re: Question on life expectancy
According to astrology people are classified into 3 groups --alpa-aayush, ardha-aayush, and poora-aayush. Alpaayush live till 32, Ardhayush 32 to 64, and Poornaayush 64 and above.

I have no idea. I had an aunt who died when she was around 30, and her chart reportedly classified her as alpaayush. I have also heard people say ardhaayush for those who died in their middle age (before 64). Poornayush is just an extrapolation from that data.

Re: Question on life expectancy
I found out by googling -
Ayur Khandas are divided into 3:
1)Alpayush (0-36)
2)Madhayush(36-72)
3)Purnayush(72-108)

Re: Question on life expectancy
I was just curious. Thanks.
*I know one area where the medical advancements have really made a huge difference in the life expectancy of women- related to maternal mortality rates.

Indeed! Just vaccines and antibiotics have raised life expectancy in the third-world from the low 30s to the high 50s or low 60s. Many of the other advanced techniques you mention are not with the reach of much of the world's population, but those two classes of breakthrough saved millions of lives.indophile wrote:It's amazing what these drugs did to our lives and life expectancies!

Wikipedia has an interesting table -- I can't post links for a couple more days, but remove the spaces in this: http : / / en.wikipedia.org / wiki / Life_expectancy#Life_expectancy_variation_over_time

It may not be much different....except, it will be a life of illness and difficulty.
The most important reason for the improved life expectancy is due to fast decreasing infant mortality.

one wonders how many of these conditions (for the need of these medications) might not have emerged if there was no agriculture, food processing where the balance in the food is skewed and of course the increasingly sedentary life style - not enough time to evolve to adapt to these factors..
