in her interview shriya shah says the cost per person for someone climbing mount everest is about $100,000. i was left wondering whether this is a justifiable cost considering that there are so many people in the world who do not have enough to eat.

that's also true of many other expensive hobbies. it appears she was doing a good amount of fund raising for some canadian charities. seems like an all round good egg. in any case i'm partial to the outdoors and can't think of a more noble, tough, and inwardly-focused outdoor activity than mountain climbing.
