Interesting. With a dismal economy, I guess Team Obama is looking to foreign policy to bolster the president's image.

what i don't understand is why the press is being allowed to find out so much about a covert operation. this is still an ongoing operation. why give out so much information so soon?

"We can tell you exactly what we are going to do to your centrifuges and you can't do s**t about it, capisce?! We are invincible and if China is listening, you better pay attention too."

•selective engagement—choosing to prevent or to become involved only in those conflicts that pose a threat to the country's long-term interests.

"Art makes a strong case for selective engagement as the most desirable strategy for contemporary America. It is the one that seeks to forestall dangers, not simply react to them; that is politically viable, at home and abroad; and that protects all U.S. interests, both essential and desirable. Art concludes that "selective engagement is not a strategy for all times, but it is the best grand strategy for these times."

Btw, the whole stuxnet scare is slightly dated and was the subject of a case study in this prof's class on radical innovation in global markets last year - http://jamesshinn.net/

Using open source materials, a student group produced a far richer account and considered policy issues arising thereof.

I particularly liked the Ludlum style of a paper's intro section -

"Deep beneath the surface of the earth in the shadow of the Karkas mountain range, Dawood Agha-Jani watched over his team monitoring operations at the Natanz Nuclear Facility. Agha-Jani had directed the Kalaye Electric Company’s uranium enrichment efforts until this work moved to Natanz in 2002. Iranian nuclear enrichment programs had come a long way under his leadership over the past two decades, and he beamed with pride as his deputy delivered the daily status report indicating that all systems were operating normally and the project was on schedule.

Just as he leaned back in his chair to take a moment to himself, he shuddered at a large crash and then another coming from the centrifuges on the other side of the glass. He jumped to his feet and watched as a couple of hundreds centrifuges exploded, spewing radioactive uranium hexafluoride and shards of aluminum across the lab into the other 8,692 centrifuges, setting off a chain reaction of destruction. In all his time at the plant, he had never seen anything like this. He immediately barked orders to his frenetic team and moved to his remote office to place a phone call.

Tehran was furious and called an emergency videoconference to assess the situation. Within 15 minutes, Agha-Jani was staring at a screen with some of the most important officials in Iran."

There was also a recent news report and a picture of a possible leak from a Iranian Nuke plant.

Anyway, if the economy does not pick up by August, Iran will get beaten up for some real timely effect....to teach them a lesson - of course.
