Bush thought by putting in a conservative Roberts - instead of Scalia - will keep the court conservative tand under their control for 2 to 3 decades. The CJ - like the speaker of the house - decides what cases come up, suggest names for appellate courts, and other court appointees.

Many a idiots in history have contributed unknowingly. Ironically, Bush presidency suddenly notches one achievement - finally.
