The only knock on his work was his inability to find external funding for research projects in the unflashy field of computational mechanics. (For example, he has studied how submarines' external materials react in real-life underwater conditions.) And that's what KU administrators seized on.

Not qualified but still for your consideration:

How many papers he has without JT Oden and JN Reddy as co-authors? Those are his REAL (partial) contributions while at KU. Even then, he had a very senior guy ahead of him in his papers. Not very strong.

He may be a great teacher - but the same course is offered throughout - a few somewhat rehashed with a diff name. Besides, he is a aero PhD sitting in Mechanical engineering - while there is a separate Aero dept in the next building.

If he had been an Indian, he would have been fired after 3 years.
