lost voice

balaji shankar was a disciple of the late vidwan d.k.jayaraman and a rising star and an incandescent talent in the world of CM in the mid 90s. then inexplicably he just vanished from the music scene. nobody, not a soul knows of his whereabouts although rumors abound. i was lucky to have attended several of his concerts here in the US and in india. i still have a few of his recordings that i treasure. i think he would have given sanjay subrahmanyan a run for his money. he is sanjay's equal in his mastery of the music and has a superior voice. although he trained under DKJ and inherited his diction and enunciation, his breezy style and gunfire kalpana swarams are more reminiscent of the late vidwan g.n.balasubramaniam (GNB).
