Patna and Indore making it into the top 15 cities of India is a good indicator of why I can never go back to desh.

This list surprised me on more than one account.
Chennai gdp was listed lower than bangalore and hyderabad.
Vishakapatnam was listed as high as 10. But this is a pleasant surprise. It is the best city to live in AP.

I was also surprised to see AP having two cities in the top 10. I would have expected Chennai rank higher than Hyderabad. I am not sure why Coimbatore did not make the list either -- I thought there was significant industrial activity there, more so than in Visakhapatnam.truthbetold wrote:This list surprised me on more than one account.

Vishaka has port and naval base and se railway. Those public sector ind may have pushed it. On the other hand printing their own money may have hurt the enterprising coimbatoreans. Both are places i do not mind living.
Kanpur and nagpur are also missing. Soorat is another surprise.

Perhaps it is purely technical. Singanallur Corporation is just 8 miles from Coimbatore. Townbuses ply well beyond Singanallur. Also, Tirupur which is only 25 miles away form the center of Coimbatore is a separate city/district. Then there is Mettupalayam - anotehr city 20 miles to the West - then up 20 miles is ooty/Coonoor. If one were to combine these many satellite corporations, Coimbatore will be much larger.
Coimbatore is more like a mega Mysore on this side of the Western Ghats - There are now flights from Coimbatore to Middle east and Singapore, with practically every IT major running its 2nd or 3rd largest operation in India.
So, I think it is all due to political map constraints.

Am surprised to see that too. Vizag did not even have a decent airport and railway station is also terrible.
