If Narendra Modi fails to become the PM of India it would in my opinion primarily be because of one person: Sonia Gandhi. If she succeeds in preventing Modi from becoming PM, history will treat Mrs Gandhi kindly in my opinion.

The relevant questions are this:

Do you not want Modi to become the prime minister of India because you think he did not quell the riots in 2002 soon enough?

Do you not want Modi to become the prime minister of India because you think he will not do be effective in his job?

Many members of this forum will answer yes to both questions.

Regarding the first question, if a bigot like Jinnah can lead a country then the lesser evil Modi also has the moral right to do so. Jinnah is in fact being eulogized by millions of people in the subcontinent. Jinnah called for direct action by Muslims against Hindus. Because of that millions were killed and many families were uprooted. What Modi did is nothing but a molehill compared to what people like Jinnah and Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy did.

Suhrawady was the chief minister of Bengal in 1946. According to wikipedia, "Suhrawardy has left a controversial legacy in post-partition India. He is perceived as responsible for unleashing, at Jinnah's behest, the Direct Action Day in August 1946 which killed thousands of Hindus. The intention was to prove that if the Congress Party did not agree to partition, all of British India would be engulfed by civil war. This action turned Hindus and Muslim neighbours into enemies and caused a cycle of death, revenge and further destruction. On the other hand, those Indians who believe that partition saved West Bengal and East Punjab from Muslim rule, credit Suhrawardy for imposing a solution that limited communal clashes in the post-independence era."

In my opinion, how effective Modi will be as a prime minister will depend on whether the congress party and the muslim community would allow him to be so. If they are bent upon going on a rampage and destroying public properties with daily riots and agitations, he would not be able to rule effectively. But if they give him a chance then he would be a great leader and take India to greater heights and instill in some work ethic among the citizens. The man has already learnt a lesson. He will certainly rise above the religious differences and will do his best to provide good governance. Because it is in his best interest to do so.

Rishi:

Under Sonia's watch, the govt. of India has become extremely corrupt. Her own political party isn't all that democratic. It is time for her to democratize CON party. After that, her first action should be to stop interfering in party affairs and her second, to find a suitable job for her son - a municipal clerk.
