The non-IITian Harvard Crimson "Iyer" marrying a thoroughbred Iyengar girl

This SaamiYaaar blesses the couple along with the 150 priests.

Obviously the bride is the TVS family's Iyengar girl.
Is the groom an Iyer?

I did a detailed study on the TVS family after reading the morning news.

Rohan Murthy - seems to be grounded on the Narayana murthy mold - with interests in philosophy and sanskrit etc.... Appears a normal student - but with almost $500 million in his kitty. He is a smartha kannada (reasonably sure).

Lakshmi Venu - daughter of VenuSrinivasa IYENGAR (grandson of TV Sundaram Iyengar) and Mallikka Srinivasan (daughter of SriSailam Iyer the head of the Amalgamations group that originally owned TAFE). She got her bachelor deg in Yale and then PhD from Univ of Warwick - most likely under Kumar Battacharya - a prof who was brought in as a consultant by her dad in 90s to reorganize Sundaram motors. So she is not a thoroughbred Iyengar as I originally thought. Clearly an arranged marriage.

Time will tell if this is a "good" match. One of these two MUST change drastically to make this workable.

===> Caste is immaterial when these kinds of wealthy families come together in a marital setting. Money and social class trumps caste in these matters.

Narayana Murthy would have gladly let his son marry M.K's grand daughter.

Swamy jee, Please advise two of my friends. The guy is Iyer and the girl is Iyengar. They have been in love for years. Both good grad students here. Only caveat is that they belong to the same Gothra. They both are terribly afraid of telling their parents.

what to do about this shortcut swamy.

If they cannot establish any relationship between them over 3 generations, then it should be fine.

Is M.K (is it M. Karunanidhi?) an Iyer/Iyengar too? I thought DMK folks don't allow them in their fold.

Haha....don;t forget that MK is a politician - meaning nothing they say applies to them.

MK's one of the 3 wives is a Brahmin. Stalin's wife is a Brahmin (also screwed/raped so many during his college days). Alagiri's son married an Iyengar just a few months ago.

They need to show off their 'Trophies" One of the fantasies of TN Non Brahmins is to marry a brahmin girl - NB version of Blondie Syndrome.

Do you know if this Srinivasan woman did a stint at Harvard back in 1984?

She went to Wharton for MBA and graduated in 1985, went back and joined her Dad's company TAFE - which she heads today.

Disclaimer: none of the information is my own and everything is from Uncle Google.

BTW, why this Rohan Murty who did his BS at Cornell (ranked #5) went to Harvard (Ranked #17) to do his PhD? Mainly for the PP (Public perception) factor - which know nothing better than to believe anything from MIT and Harvrd and Stanford are the best.

With his 500 mil kitty and his father at his side, he could have done any project he wants at any place he wants... Wonder why he did not go to MIT - which is even more prestigious and ranked much higher. He went straight from BS to PhD, and MIT is extremely picky about picking its PhD students.

BTW, Cornell is one of the IVY leagues that tend to accept most (above avg ) students. Not so with Princeton.
