The poverty line (limit) in India is Rs. 18,000 per year (Rs. 1,500 per month). That means a person belonging to the "higher" caste or non-OBC and non-SC/ST categories and even having the income near or below the poverty line (Rs. 18000 per year) will not get any help or reservations from Govt. for family members in education and jobs while the OBCs (earning as much as Rs. 6 lakhs / year or Rs. 50,000 / month) and SC/STs (having unlimited income) will qualify for those benefits from Govt.
