India will continue to be multi-lingual after the creation of a united states of south asia. after all, the first language of the people of bangladesh is bengali and with respect to Pak the first language of the people is sindhi, punjabi, balochi, multani, etc. Guha is sensible on many issues but i am not going to blindly swallow whatever he says.

 By united states of South Asia, do you mean the united "Caliphate" where green flags fly on Red fort while a red river flows across South Asia? Quite a sikular dream! if the EU would have been an utter failure it would have broken up and individual countries would have gone their own way. but that has not happened.

India is large enough and diverse enough. We have it hard enough already; we don't need Swat valley and a border with Afghanistan to deal with.
