I thought Sri Ram Singh was even ahead before his injury made him a forgotten figure. Also, Milkha Singh in the 1960 (?) the Flying Sikh was a serious medal contender.

P.S. BTW, Rev Flimmy Iyer is trying to divert attention with a thread on Athletics....when the whole social media is fuming and praising and demanding new states in India...

Milkha Singh in the 1960 Rome Olympics. In the 400 Meters race, he looked back when they were rounding the last turn and that was enough for two guys to pass him for gold and silver.

which led to the urban legend that while passing him, they asked him, "are you milkha singh" to which he replied, "no i am relaxing".

gowNDer, "gaining access" is a phrase i made up to describe the reason for the ingratiating behaviour seen here, most often by the middle-aged, balding uncals towards the aunTties. if you have any creativity or humour in you, make up your own phrases.

How do old-aged, already bald Achachans show ingratiating behavior towards the Iyers?

meaning what? that line could be "we knead the dough" or "we need the dough." the pun is in the homophones "knead" and "need," and the different interpretations of "dough." the enjoyment of it occurs when one recognizes the other interpretation; it does not matter which of the two possible lines is used.

you know that only because i've posted that pun and explained it here before i started the thread entitled "a pun for bhenkatrao."

i suppose you think that writing "jock" for "joke" is a pun or is at least humorous. it's neither; it's just juvenile and idiotic!

the answer: henry rebello of bangalore and madras. he was a triple jumper, and was favoured to win the gold medal in that event at the london olympics in 1948.

that was india's first entry into the olympics as free india. rebello was then only nineteen. his bid for gold ended in tragedy; in his first jump, he tore his hamstring and had to be carried back on a stretcher. he abandoned his athletics career after that.

rebello graduated from loyola college, madras, joined the indian air force, and retired as a group captain.

more about henry rebello:

india's fastest sprinter and 100 m indian record holder, eric prabhakar, who had just graduated from mcc, tambaram, was also a member of that indian contingent.
