lament:

jamal inspired nujabes's kujaku:

when i first listened to kujaku it hit me like a ton of bricks that this was totally ripped off from jamal and i was elated to learn that i was right.

interesting juxtaposition of tastes, or perhaps a case of music embedded in memory. about three years ago, I had posted the two versions of brubeck's take five, and jamal's poinciana and arabesque. glad you like all of these.

jamal can be very tender and almost lyrical at times and very strident and aggressive at other times. by contrast, monk's playing always sounds strident. i like it for other reasons, perhaps for the more complex rhythmic ideas. it's hard to be more specific about it since i lack the technical vocabulary.

Keep sucking up to him while he secretly fetishes about your sisters (and depending on the age, your mother's) tampons back in Tamil Nadu.
