I would love to see the translation in the notices, and the translation of that translation:-)

It's the damn Punjabis' fault. They keep elongating and shortening their vowels. See - no such issues with Gujarati.

Once the Maharajah of Vizianagaram was served a printed (form) court notice in Telugu that addressed him as "neevu" as translation for "you." But not even the Maharajah's mother addressed him as "neevu;" everyone (including his mother) addressed him as "meeru" (respectful "you"). So he counter-sued the court and went all the way up to the Privy Council in London (Supreme Court in those days), and lost.

The translator must have been proficient in two South Indian languages at the time and must have meant ನೀವು.

Yeah, the Kannada "neenu" and "neevu" translate to Telugu "neevu" and "meeru."
