Ansari's attempts to give justification for Political Islam

Identity assertion in any society, the Vice President argued, had three sets of impulses: civic equality, liberty and opportunity. “Identity groups are byproduct of the right of freedom of association. They can be cultural, voluntary, ascriptive and religious. They are neither good nor bad in themselves but do present challenges to democratic justice.”

Having the freedom to practice culture within the limits of country's secular laws and asserting identity are two different things, especially of those actions that are detrimental to somebody else and fellow citizens. India's constitution says a person can do what they want provided it does not affect others's rights and compliant to laws. Political Islamic assertion impacts Non-Muslims as seen in the past and seen in numerous Islamic countries & Bangladesh, and as seen in Pakistan and Gulf, even Minority Muslim sects in those countries . So it needs to be combated foremost by Muslims themselves. Unfortunately there is no hope if a VP of India things like this. Every Indian needs to be sensitized through proper education about the dangers of Political Islam, so that truly secular Muslims become a force to reckon with in India, and oppose/debate Political Islamic Apologizers like Ansari. Sadly that does not seem to be the case.
A VP of the country belonging to a country like India should NOT be defending the aggressive political Islamic assertion by the Muslim politicians. It is a shame, that nobody is challenging this person to a debate. Given the history of genocide against Hindus/Sikhs during Islamic rule in India, Political Islamic thought itself should be nipped in the bud.
Glad that Chris Patten immediately contradicted him. I hope many politicians including educated Muslims in India combat this dangerous ideology of identity assertion/political Islam.
