HYDERABAD: Isro scientists are now on a mission to eliminate minor deviations in the trajectory of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) Mangalyaan.

"The beastly energy of the launch vehicle and the brute force of the liquid engine on board MOM have set it on course to Mars. It's now the turn of the tiny thrusters, to play their part in fine tuning the trajectory for achieving the right conditions to for Mars capture," Isro scientists said.

These 22-N thrusters on board MOM will be fired to precisely steer MOM to Mars during the four trajectory correction manoeuvres (TCMs). One TCM is slated for December 11, 2013.

"Our navigation team has now got a precise understanding of the precise trajectory of MOM based on the range and velocity data acquired over the several days since trans-Mars injection (TMI). Now it's time for the navigators to trigger the TCMs and eliminate minor deviations in the trajectory before they have a chance to become large," scientists said a little while ago.

If you had gone back to India after getting your Ph.D in Aerospace engineering and joined ISRO, you could very well now be the chairman of that organization. And your name will be etched in history.

Have you ever wondered about that?

In case you don't know, Seva's PhD thesis was on spacecrafts and their trajectories.

The other aeronautics IIT wallah on SuCh didn't pursue his field after coming to Berkley. He is recently, getting into AAPism after getting disappointed with sikularism.
