This is the same country that claims diplomatic immunity for its CIA operative in Pakistan, who has MURDERED someone. Talk about double standards. This pansy UPA government will do nothing - there have to be some expulsions of diplomatic staff, and a complete embargo of US arms industry. Preeet Bharara is an out of control indophobe, and he needs to be shown his place. Declare him a persona non-grata, and attach all his ancestral property (if any) in India.

Every country expects special privileges for themselves while apply their laws on others - Except India, of course.

The woman committed a crime and broke the law - whatever her position is. Everyone does it and all countries do it argument does not wash - although it is true. She does have a family history of hanky-panky in financial dealings - all said and done and she is no innocent.

Now, regarding diplomatic immunity - she would not have been touched if she had belonged to China, Brazil or Russia. In such cases, she may be extradited to India if India gives assurances that she will be tried in India under Indian laws - this has happened in the case of other countries....Recall some Paki consul-General, and some Saudi guy, who preferred to be tried in US. But, Indian courts by demanding the arrest of the maid, has proved that Devyani will never ever be tried.

She will be released after her image has been damaged - rather exposed.

Just thought about another thing. If the maid ate and lived in Devyani's house, then that will add considerably to her paid salary of $550.

In any case, showing a salary of $54K on visa application is surely a Tejpal like mistake.

The main charge levelled by US department of justice was that Khobragade had electronically submitted to the state department that she would be paying $4,500 per month ($9.75 per hour) to her domestic assistant Sangeet Richard. She, however, made Richard sign a second contract later, reducing her salary to Rs30,000 ($3.31 per hour) a month.

What am I missing here ? $4500/month = $9.75/hr???

My calculations show that 9.75/hr works out to 21500 /yr.

Russian embassy people have claimed immunity and let go after serious crimes of killing. But, a female consul general is arrested for for underpaying an Indian nanny? This is going to be a bizarre case.
