Ramamurthi said the idea was to run a low-power direct current (DC) line from every substation into houses. This will feed into a separate meter, and then on to a certain number of lights and fans and other low power devices like mobile phone chargers. Other appliances will be run on regular alternating current (AC) power, metered separately.

>>> It seems the additional DC supply not only will require extra DC meter in each house, but  also a separate / additional wiring system and set of devices (fans etc.) in each house which are not connected to the AC line.
