So if your desired retirement income is 100k, 22 times that is 2.2 million. How is it possible to retire with 2.2 million? With interest rates being so low, at 1% rate you will get 22k per year in interest.

Most of these kind of calculators assume that you are invested in a portfolio of stocks and bonds with a historical return of 4% . Google "safe withdrawal rate".
