Can you folks decipher this Annamayya song? On the surface it looks vulgur with unrestrained ribaldry, but someone explained to me the more sublime meaning of it.

oh is this going to turn into a telugu thread? cuz most of us don't remember how to read telugu. if you put it in English maybe some of the tamil and other people can share their insights with you also. I mean it looks like it is about the daughter-in-law. universal topic.

This seems like a song about a royal courtesan or whatever name those entertainer dancer ladies of yesteryear were called.
Just yesterday I watched a couple of episodes of Vamsi's "Maa Pasalapudi Kathalu". The lead character has a second set up for whom he rents a separate house and deeds 5 acres in her name. This lady lives along with her mother, who calls every customer "alludu". The man expects loyalty and exclusivity but the mother being a shrewd woman, doesn't want to turn away old customers whom she calls "bandhuvulu".

If the customers are "alludu", then the dancer/entertainer must be the universal "kodalu" and her mother the universal "athayya"

The link I gave has the English transliteration (actually it's called ITrans) of the song.

Actually it's godlier than that.
I will translate (what a shame! translating Telugu into English) some words not commonly used in modern Telugu and state the meaning that was explained to me by a friend.

come, you blame-deserving DIL ---- go go MIL, enough friendship with you

bellowing before kings you with no hesitation / shyness and no holding back ,......DIL

lotus-faced you who wanders around fellows with many houses like a slave you,..... MIL

ఈడాద (over here) నలుగురు నేగురు మొగలతో (4, 5 men) కూడి సిగ్గులేని కోడల
here you are entertaining shamelessly four or five men you ,.....DIL

వాడక (from each subdivision) బదుగురి వలపించు కొని నీవు ఆడాద (over there) దిరి గేవు అత్త య్యా
and there you invite ten from each subdivision to move around with,......MIL

బొడ్డున బుట్టిన పూపనికే (for the tender fruit born off my belly) నిన్ను గొడ్డేరు (dry waterless stream) తెస్తి నేకోడల
For my baby that's born out of bellybutton I brought you dry (barren),....... DIL

I was busy praying the one the king of the lake, using him as a foil,..... MIL
The song should be interpreted as an argument between Lakshmi and Saraswati.
Saraswati is Lakshmi's DIL with Brahma being Vishnu's son.
Lakshmi blames Saraswati as one that entertains kings by endowing the poets and pundits of the court with knowledge.
Saraswati blames Lakshmi as a slave to many undeserving people.
Lakshmi blames Saraswati as a barren woman (no children)
Saraswati says she is busy putting herself into the prayers for Lord Venkateshwara.
