"Secularism is a tolerant way of living but it’s not a cure to disease, it’s not a cure to hunger.Secularism doesn’t eliminate backwardness or poverty. It cannot give anyone employment"

secularism is an indirect cure to hunger, not by itself but combined with other factors. How so? Secularism ensures that there is no strife within society based on religion or even caste. When people are not involved in civil strife and are directing all their energies to increasing production, including agricultural and industrial production, then automatically the problem of hunger is indirectly alleviated to a large extent if not completely.

Actually secularism needs to be adopted in a Muscular fashion when Political Islamists are around as in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and J&K. So secular laws need a lot more strengthening when Islamists are around, because their single idea is to destroy it. They just can't reconcile with that.
