Question 5 is a mischievous question. The answer actually is that the mosque built by Aurangzeb still remains to this day. It is called the Gyanvapi mosque. Ahilya Bai Holkar built a temple adjacent to this mosque. Please stop posting quiz questions whose answer you yourself don't know.

ANSWERS.

1.       For what kingdom was Jhansi Lakshmibai queen? ----- Bundelkhand was the area and Jhansi was a kingdom in that area.

2.       Name the British army officer who shot the last three Moghul princes who were first tied naked in a bullock cart and paraded through Chandini Chowk in Delhi?

Col Hodson, of Hodson's Horse (a cavalry regiment). He had the three princes stripped naked, paraded in Chandini Chowk on a bullock cart, and shot them in cold blood right in front of the Humayun Tomb.

3.       How many children did Mumtaz bear for Shajahan, and in how many years? How many survived?

She bore 14 children for Shajahan in a span of 19 years. She died in childbirth of the 14th child. The guy literally loved her to death. Of her 14 children only 7 reached adulthood.

4.       Among the survivors of Mumtaz’s children, how many were boys and how many were girls? What were their names?

4 boys and 3 girls. The boys were -- Dara, Shuja, Aurangzeb, Murad. The girls were -- Jahan Ara, Roshan Ara, & Gaurahara.

5.       Who rebuilt the Siva temple in Benares after muslims razed it?

Maharashtrian queen Rani Ahalya Bai of the Holkar of Indore family. The temple was destroyed several times in its history with the latest destroyer being Moghul emperor Aurangzeb. If you visit the temple you can notice that Nandi there faces the mosque next door, not the Shivalinga in the rebuilt temple (signifying that the original Shivalinga was at the mosque location). The wiki piece on the temple.

6.       Who made Andaman and Nicobar Islands Indian territory?

Marathas. They had a navy that annexed those islands as part of the Maratha empire. They used those islands as navy bases to pirate in the critical sea routes nearby. When the British defeated Marathas, the islands became part of British India.

7.       What is the National Animal of Bangladesh?

Royal Bengal Tiger.

8.       What is the distance of ocean that Hanuman long-jumped from India to Srilanka?

100 yojanas. There are sveral interpretations of what constitutes a yojana.

9.       State six names of Seeta (including Seeta) that are popular girl names to this day.

Seeta, Janaki, Maithili, Vaidehi, Pavani, Avanija. There are many other names but you don't much hear girls being given those names (Sia (a vriation of Seeta), Rampyari, Bhoomija, Dharanija, Ayonija, etc.)

10.    What is common among Surendranath Banerjee, Romeshchandra Dutta, and S.K. Gupta?

They were the first Indians to be selected for the Indian Civil Service (ICS), the precursor to IAS. Surendranath Banerjee resigned form ICS, Romeshchandra Dutta ended up as the Prime Minister to the Maharajah of Gwalior, and I can't recall where Gupta went.

Okay. Rampyari is in. Smile

In our area diminutives for original names are used quite often. But those are used only in talking, not in writing. For example, Lakshmi becomes Lacchi, Saraswati becomes Sacchu, Rukmini becomes Rukku - somewhat like Seeta becoming Siya for Tulsidas.
