#7 is BRUNET (for the guy) / BRUNNET (for the girl) homophone.

Re: THURSDAY CRYPTICS - 4/17
Only the following two clues remain to be solved. Hints are provided.
2. Criticized for being noisily preoccupied. (6)
hint1: homophone
hint2: The homophone play is on a silent letter (like know/no, need/knead, etc.)
3. Dogs bark in front of birds. (7)
hint1: A+B
hint2: use indicator letter for a word.

Re: THURSDAY CRYPTICS - 4/17
I take back # 3.
I had it as A+B with B+EAGLES (B as indicator for "bark" and Beagles being dogs).
But I am not sure if B as an indicator for "bark" is correct.
May be bw can throw some light on this.
The only clue left is:
2. Criticized for being noisily preoccupied. (6)

hint2: The homophone play is on a silent letter (like know/no, need/knead, etc.)

ANSWER

hint1: homophone
hint2: The homophone play is on a silent letter (like know/no, need/knead, etc.)
RAPPED (wrapped - hom)

yeah, "bark" for "b" is not a fair clue. some other indicator like "leader of" or "head of" etc. was needed. oddly, i did guess "BEAGLES" but didn't make the connection to "EAGLES".

Why do these answers seem easy after they are solved?indophile wrote:ANSWER

You start with an assumption that the poster is incapable of setting complex clues, and everything will be easy from then on.

Indo ,
I have this nagging question that I need to ask.
What do you mean when you say " some are recycled" in almost all cryptic sets?
Recycled from your past sets? I tried to google if I can find them anywhere else , but no such luck so far.

Yes, they appeared before. I try to change the wordplay a little. May be that's the problem. For example, a well worn clue such as -
Semi-nude dancer doffed her skirt for a slight variation. (6)
may show up in the set as -
Semi-nude dancer exposes to show a shade of color. (6)
