holding hard assets

so everybody and his grandmother is going to devalue his/her currency sooner or later, making paper currency worthless. does it make sense to own assets with tangible value such as farm land etc, in the hopes that the intrinsic value or or does it not even make any sense to hold anything other than gold?

You should try holding to solid gold bars till you die. When you die the gold bar you hold will come with you all the way to Yamaraj to save you from the ills of this world. This is so because gold is such a nice thing, you melt it down and it could belong to anybody. Just my one cent humble advice (which you will not of course like).
