dubai is a two faced land . all this luxury is built upon hard work of slave laborers who are fooled into coming there .

the slave laborers are promised good payment by those agents who bring them from bangladesh or other such poor countries . but when they land in dubai , their passport is confiscated by their employer and they are trapped in dubai . the pay they receive is less than one fourth of what was promised to them , and they have to work 12 to 14 hours on construction sites in the desert heat .

to those who protest against this unjust system , the dubai government points out that inspite of all this it is at least better and pro western and more liberal than the others who rule in other parts of the region . and if the monarchy of dubai is overthrown then it will be surely replaced by islamic fundamentalists who will be worse . that part is true , of course .

so we are advised to shut up and let things in dubai be as they are....

that is another part of it's two faced orientation . half of it's laws are prowestern to the point of allowing bikinis there . but some laws hark to the medieval age . for example if you have money you can party daily . but as many who made bad investments discovered , the moment you run out of money and are in debt you are thrown in jail !! for if you cannot pay your bills then it is punishable by imprisonment in dubai .
