at the 1971 newport jazz festival, with a new trio + tenor saxophonist gerry mulligan (bearded, in pink shirt, seated, at extreme left), and that coolest of nerds, paul desmond (bespectacled, in greyish suit, standing, at extreme right) who was part of the original quartet. brubeck plays the piano
