Bachmann wins Iowa straw poll Empty Bachmann wins Iowa straw poll

While this pole means nothing to John Doe Public, it counts a little bit for Republican presidential hopefuls. For two people, it is crucial. Bachmann and Pawlenty are both from neighboring Minnesota and claim Iowa to be their backyard. Performance here could impact fund raising and image change. As expected Bachmann won by a comfortable margin (14% over Pawlenty).

1. Bachmann
2. Ron paul
3. Pawlenty

This will hurt Pawlenty in both fund raising and Image. It was said that Pawlenty's campaign is essentially for a VP position. The poor performance in Iowa may damage or dismantle Pawlenty. He may want to run till Iowa caucuses but it is doubtful if he can hang around that long.

If Pawlenty is going for VP he has already burnt his bridges with the leading contender Romney. Perhaps he will hope Perry wins and picks him.

Remember "Vodoo" economics, Bush and Reagan. In politics only thing that matters is can he (or she) deliver votes (in case a state or two). So I would not rule out Romney/Pawlenty ticket for that reason. (it could be so boring even republicans may not tolerate it).

Yes, Pawlenty has stronger chance for VP with Rick Perry.

Bachmann claims Pawlenty. The loss by a huge margin at Iowa poll caused Pawlenty to give up his quest for Presidential nomination. This somewhat moderate -turned - trying to fit in - conservative- boring - Pawlenty was shut off by Iowa repubs. He is smart enough to know that his time is up and gave up. He may angle for secretary position in a new republican presidential era.
