The view from the other side. A good article:

"Many years ago, I saw a Nat Geo Special. A snake slithers up a tree to a nest where a bird is watching over her eggs. Frightened at the mere sight of the snake, she takes flight, the snake eats the eggs, destroys the nest and slithers back only to a find an alligator in the swamp. The predator suddenly becomes the prey. The snake manages to escape the powerful jaws of the alligator but not before it is badly bruised, almost unfit to be a predator anymore.
If you are Vishal Bharadwaj, your movie would not depict the snake as a predator but as mere prey, a badly bruised and injured reptile incapable of doing any harm. What you are told would obviously be the truth but an incomplete one.
So the unwitting viewer is given a book of history with first four chapters missing, without even making a mention that they ever existed. When you have a movie that is set in the Kashmir of 1995, you have to deal with the baggage of history. You cannot gloss over what happened from 1989 to 1995.
The filmmaker chooses to ignore those significant years which saw hundreds of temples being razed to dust, thousands of houses burnt after being looted, which saw this very majority, which is portrayed as almost subjugated, participating in a gory ritual of driving away the minorities and being the subjugators themselves.
There is a convenient script and an inconvenient half truth which makes the very edifice of the movie suspect and thus less credible."

In a way, it is good. Any kind of publicity, even negative publicity, is good for that film makers. The less people talk about it and ignore it, the better.
That was a genuine appeal from a friend whose husband is in the army. She asked us to totally ignore the movie. The Indian army personnel are indeed very angry and hurt, but they don't want to make this an issue as it's going to benefit the film makers and they don't want that to happen.

Kashmiri pandit groups on Tuesday sought a ban on the recently-released Bollywood film Haider as they felt a song Bismil had portrayed the ancient Sun Temple (Martand Temple) of Kashmir as a devil's den and hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus all over the world.
The film is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and co-written by a Kashmiri author Basharat Peer.
The All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee (APMCC), an amalgam of different Kashmiri Pandit gropus, staged a protest in Jammu against the screening of the film.
The committee also accused Bhardwaj of conspiring to 'denigrate the 1,700-yearold Hindu temple and sought a ban of the film. They also demanded an unconditional apology from the producer and director of the film and questioned how the Censor Board of India and the Archaeological Survey of India had cleared the film.
"By allowing shooting of a film inside the temple and then depicting as the devil's den is intolerable. We demand immediate deletion of the song or the re-shoot of the entire sequence," members of the APMCC said and threatened to launch a nationwide agitation against the film maker if their demands were not met. "We will not tolerate religious incursion under the garb of artistic freedom," they said.
The committee plans to issue a legal notice to the producer, CBFC and ASI for 'defaming an ancient Hindu temple and hurting religious sentiments of Hindus.'

Kashmiri Separatist: Look at #Haider. It is clear proof of Indian Army's atrocities in J&K. Now your own people are showing truth.

Indian Rationalist: Are Kashmiri separatist women prostitutes? Do Kashmiri separatists kiss their moms on neck?

Kashmiri Separatist: Zuban sambhal ke baat kar. How dare you say this?

Indian Rationalist: I saw in your proof Haider. A Kashmiri wife loved someone else, was caught cheating on her husband by her own son and later her son was found kissing her. Is this not the clear proof of separatists being sons of prostitutes?

Kashmiri Separatist: Oye kutte, this movie is the work of fiction. And death to the maker of movie for portraying our women in bad light.

Indian Rationalist: So you were using fiction to demonize Army?

Kashmiri S:

Indian: Why silent?

Kashmiri S: MAKER OF THIS MOVIE IS KUTI KA BACHCHA AND WE WILL NOT SPARE HIM AND WE THOUGHT OF HIM A NICE MAN BUT HE IS ENEMY OF OUR PEOPLE AND DEATH TO INDIA AND BOLLYWOOD, KUTE SUWAR HARAMKHORR.

Kashmiri separatist wins debate.

Stupid, torturous movie. Highlight or lowlight of the movie is Kay Kay Menon who has that same expression on his face in all his movies - like he swallowed a dozen marbles while drunk last night and is now worried about impending bowel movement.
