Her Story Empty Her Story

(copying the narration style from a story older wrote recently)

It was 14 years ago that she met him first, in the university in Varanasi. She was a Hindi Literature major, he was in engineering. Both came close together for the shared love of Hindi poetry.

It was 11 years ago that she got engaged. He told her he loved her. She said it was not possible.

It was 10 years ago that she got married and moved to New York and got work in the Indian embassy. He graduated and got a job in New Delhi.

It was 8 years ago that she gave birth to a baby boy.

It was 7 years ago that she lost her husband in an accident.

It was 5 years ago that she fully came out of her grieving.

It was 4 and a half years ago that she visited New Delhi for work. She thought about him and called his home number in Varanasi. When they said he now lived in New Delhi. She gave no name, no number, no forwarding address, said thank you and hung up. Her number was blocked as well.

It was that evening that she found him in her hotel lobby. It had taken him just 6 hours to track her down.

It was 4 years ago that he requested a transfer in his company and moved to NY too. Thus began a second chance at love that began 10 years ago, for him. For the first time she felt she was truly in love.

It was 3 years ago that she realized he showed no interest in her toddler. It was not in the things he said, because he assured her well. It was in the little things he did, or didn’t. She began raising her concerns.

It was 2 years ago that she decided, sadly. Her son was the main purpose of her life. He had assured her he would love the child but he couldn’t produce in his heart what he didn’t possess. She asked him to leave.

It was 1 year ago that she found the coach of her son’s soccer team taking interest in his game and in her. He was a divorcee with 2 kids of his own who lived with him. A son and a daughter.

It was 6 months ago that she realized she not only loved the man but his little family as well.

It’s today, and she is walking down the aisle, towards a man who she knows can provide the love, security, family she needs and her son deserved; and a daughter that she always yearned. Together, they will raise a family.

That's what love meant to her. Not the passion that he provided, briefly.

It was 16 years ago that he met this website. He was gainfully employed. They came close together for the shared love of Hindia .

It’s today, and he is walking down memory lane; he knows in his heart this has been a sheer waste of time. The NI/SI battles and assorted issues have added no value whatsoever to his life. Together, they have drained each other.

That's what time has  meant to him. Something to be squandered on frivolous battles and issues irrelevant to him.
