Kharagpur: If one believed that it was only the masses and not the classes backing Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption, here is an eye opener.

Regarded as the top brains of the country, IIT-Kharagpur students have decided to skip the 57th Convocation ceremony of the institute, in which they were to be conferred with their degree by none other than Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself on Monday. The unprecedented move comes in wake of the strong support to Hazare’s campaign by the students of one of the pioneer institutes of the country.

One of the students included in the list is Shashi Shekhar Singh, who has completed his M Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. Singh told Dainik Jagran that through this act he will further intensify the “India Against Corruption movement.”

The IITians had organised the dharna protest at Chhota Tongra in support of Jan Lokpal. On the occasion Singh said, “We have decided not to participate in the convocation ceremony, the idea is not to oppose any particular person but provide solidarity to Hazare’s campaign.”

Similarly, several other students have decided to maintain distance from the ceremony.”
