absolute delight. Watched him play few matches. He was the guy responsible for spin ascendancy in Indian cricket. Class act on the field and did not hear any negatives from his contemporaries. A Prince who symbolized polished Indian elite and behaved in an elegant manner.

Towards the end of his career, he was in the team solely for captaining the team. He laid the foundation for future Indian teams to think in terms of winning than just survive and draw.

A very positive, accomplished, well respected and well loved cricketer.

He was the first name I remember from cricket, since my brother used to talk about him. We don't think about the fact that the guy played with one eye since its something we grew up with, but when you reflect on that, its just mind-boggling. The guy got back on the saddle soon after he lost the eye and while he doesn't make much of an issue of it, it is nothing short of heroic. Cultivating a sense of playing for one country by getting the players to rise above regionalism and the idea that winning was possible are pretty big paradigm shifts. A life well lived, definitely.
