absolutely. i posted streisand's version for contrast. love the way jamal builds up excitement and anticipation in the 1st 1.5 min to finally play the theme briefly at about 1:35. he's not interested in pursuing the original's melancholy nostalgia.

yes, the bluesy, cannonball adderley/miles version is indeed one of the best, and is faithful to the mood set by the original. i heard a bit of clapton's.
