Police officers and firefighters have been San Francisco's highest-paid city workers for years, thanks to overtime, premium pay and hefty vacation buyouts, but now they've been overtaken by another group - nurses.

What is wrong with that. They worked hard and every penny of their earnings is accounted for by - their own hard work and clock time.
Compare this to the Wall Street Looters - who get random year end bonuses in the millions - for causing losses in the billions to their customers, clients, and account holders.

Can't criticize both..ehh? poor wall st. guys didn't get paid overtime for all those extra hours.

And remember it is in CA with taxes left right top bottom and at 45 deg angle from other sources like DMV and you name it.

BTW, this was published for PI who said such things do not happen in the great democratic state of CA.

The screwed up cali and other state systems had a fat pension schemes to those who served for 20 yrs - along the lines of the military. after 20 years - when a cop/fireman/professor/teacher - retired they got almost 100% of their last month salary as future pensions. So these guys retired in the mid 40s with a 150 to 200 K pension AND went off to work some other job at 250 K/yr. Except for the pension schemes of cities, and some states most have moved away from such pension plans in the 80s. Cali still stuck with that system and hence the economic problems.
Not the nurses - they (have to) work hard to match the high priced city life. These days critical care nurses easily make 70 to 90 K even in the midwest without much overtime.
