Knowledge vs. Application::Education:Awareness Empty Knowledge vs. Application::Education:Awareness

I strongly feel that knowledge means nothing without understanding its application.

For example, earlier this year, my younger sister requested me to teach her son some 7th grade Physics.

So, I asked him to show me what he had been learning.

He showed me a bunch of questions in his notebook on Force, mass, acceleration, momentum, gravity, Newtons 1st, 2nd law et all. All the equations. And how he solved them all.

And I wondered, if he had felt these concepts around him?

So, I asked him to come stand with me in the balcony on 39th floor of his home in Mumbai, and look outside.

I asked him to look at the road, people, trees, birds, and tell me where did he see this force, mass, momentum, acceleration?

His response? - This will take forever to finish my homework. I will do it myself.

I was disappointed.

Knowledge without understanding its application is not as useful. Just like education, having a PhD in Philosophy, just to insult a low caste is meaningless in being aware.

random analogies,
TS.

PhD in Philosophy = = Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy ? Does not make any sense.

Much like the Indian school system that teaches forrrmoolas in Max and Physics for the sake of egjams.

Exactly. I stand corrected, but it brings out a point:

Our education is such that we have been trained to find a spelling mistake, find grammar mistakes when we should be focussed on finding the originality of a future Physicist, and missing the whole "meaning" of what is the focus. It is NOT the spelling of Physicist, mind you!

Our education does not focus on "meaning", but on everything else. Not on "understanding", but everything else.

Thats exactly the point.

Anyways, GN.

LOL TS! you reminded me of BBT's that episode where Penny wants to learn what Leonerd does for living and Sheldon starts by teaching her - the question we all must ask is What is Physics hahaha i see you're doing well. I wrote a story about breaking the monotony and then i saw your post the other day! isn't that something!?!?!
