I don't think so; I think it's wealth and an ostentatious lifestyle. however, some e.j.m.ers seem to believe otherwise:

http://www.econjobrumors.com/topic/is-a-hrm-degree-the-most-commonly-used-signal-of-eliteness-in-the-united-states

the question is not addressed well enough, and the thread discusses in more detail, the use of s.a.t. scores to assign value to job seekers, even after completing their post-graduate degrees.

s.a.t. scores are said to be highly correlated with IQ. in the link given in the sixth post of the link above, is a table to convert s.a.t. composite scores to IQ.

the average poster at e.j.m.r. is likely to value degrees from elite universities more than the average american, because a large percent of them are europeans, and latin americans from the more developed countries of south america.

Prosperity is ALWAYS fragile. Most wealthy ones want their kids to go one step higher. however, it takes a lot more effort to make even a small improvement at that level. So the parents want to equip their kids with all the necessary tools. Of course, kids of most wealthy and rich Ivy parents can easily get into IVies. Did u notice that kids of most successful Indian industrialists graduate from ivies.
