A group of non-local businessman running a shop in Kohima has reportedly absconded after looting a few hundred customers of over Rs 25 lakh by offering household electronic goods at huge rate of discount.
Police sources said a Tamil businessman, identified as K Arangulauam of Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, along with his other accomplice were running a shop, M/s Shree Durga Home Need, at Sepfhezou colony, Kohima on High School Road.
They reportedly lured customers offering heavy discount upto 45% on advance booking of electronic household goods like washing machine, cookers, refrigerator and other appliances.
Luring the customers, the shopkeepers used to register their names and collect money from them at the discounted rate of the appliances.
However, when the anxious customers went to collect their goods, they found the shop closed, not to be opened anymore.

The angry customers after waiting for some days went to the shop today too, but found it still closed. Subsequently, the matter was reported to police. On enquiry it was found that the shop, attached with a godown, was almost empty, except for the furniture while the businessman had already managed to flee with the cash.
