a longish article by the harvard crimson, a well-known student publication:

http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2003/11/20/the-cult-of-yale-bfor-god/

it's all a little juvenile, but captures the differences correctly. the gist: yale values its undergrads, while harvard does not value its.

not sure why harvard students feel so tired since the story we on the outside hear is that there is massive grade inflation at harvard and any schmuck gets an A. i have a neighbor whose kid attends uchicago who goes around wearing a t-shirt that proclaims (i am paraphrasing since i don't remember the exact quote), "what you thought it's easy to get good grades here? you should have attended harvard then".

I do agree that Yale and Columbia put a little more emphasis on the UG.

All Ivies and Stanford are notorious grade inflaters. Basically, they admit some of the best students and obviously the easy As are justified irrespective of whether they deserve it or not.

But, their grade better match their standardized tests for LSAT, MCAT, DAT, etc...otherwise their inflated GPA and everything else will go down the drain.

It sounds like Harvard undergrads are trying to pass on a message to their own univ. authorities, to be treated / valued like Yale treats / values its undergrads.
