Nobel winner Korana dies Empty Nobel winner Korana dies

Claimed as an INDIAN-American, he was born in Pakistan and studied in Pakistan before going to England. Never worked or known to have lived in India. Shouldn't he be then called a Pakistani-American?

Whenever he met Indian students (or those who worked under him), he used to urge them to go back to India after their studies. Most desis hated that. In hindsight, he was 100% right in his advice.

Indeed he should have been called a Pakistani at best

Did he advise Indian students in America to return home because he didn't want them in America or was he looking after the interests of India ...

Don't know much about the man

desi students would hv thot that he was being selfish. But, I honestly think he must have said that in good faith with their "overall" interests in mind. after all, he himself never got to live for too long in his homeland. That is also one reason why he was not put on a pedestal by the GoI like they do to Amartya Sen. Don't know if they would have benefited. The only ones who have clearly benefited are the MBA types and in IT, Software, healthcare. Don't think many PhD types really got much recognition or achieved fame and recognition by returning to India. With the education sector becoming like a second rate cottage industry and the country really not geared for "real research" PhDs and the academics dont have much to gain/offer in India.

In contrast, China is rolling the red carpet for academicians who want to return to China and the result is clearly seen in their numbers in the world's top 100 institutions.
